National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre (NDRRMC)
Mauritius is a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) vulnerable to severe weather events and natural disasters such as cyclones, storm and tidal surges, torrential rains, floods and flash floods, landslides, tsunami as well as man-induced disasters. As per World Risk Report 2022, Mauritius is ranked 107th as most at risk to disasters.
In 2021, Mauritius was ranked 51st. Mauritius has progressed compared to 2021.
Role of NDRRMC
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre (NDRRMC) acts as the focal institution for the State of Mauritius for the planning, organizing, coordinating and monitoring of disaster risk reduction and management activities.
Vision Statement
A safe, adaptive and resilient nation.
The vision statement has already been set out in the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Strategic Framework 2020-2030 "The vision of a safe, adaptive, and resilient nation.” The vision is consistent with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Policy for the Republic of Mauritius.
